Two lenses.
One creative economy.

Recorded-music revenue and creator royalty collections measure different things. We keep them separate here: IFPI tracks recorded-music trade revenue, while CISAC reports collections through its member societies. The figures are useful side by side, but they are not interchangeable.

EXPLORE RIGHTS & LICENSING

RECORDED MUSIC

How music

CREATOR COLLECTIONS

rights travel.

LICENSING CONTEXT

Rights move through
more than one route.

In the United States, the Copyright Office identifies statutory licenses that cover, among other things, making and distributing phonorecords of nondramatic musical works. That is one part of a broader rights picture, which can also involve negotiated permissions, performance rights, and the distinct rights in a composition and a recording.
